A typical Full Day Trout Class will start at our Warm Springs location.  There you will meet your instructor and begin with the basics of the gear needed.  The pros and cons about Rods, Reels, Lines, Leaders, Tippets, Wader and Boots will be discussed.  Next knot tying and fly selection will be covered.  Once some knots are learned, clients will begin the casting portion of the day.  This will start on the grass and good technique will be covered.  Once the casts are clean and true, lunch will be served and a relaxing break is enjoyed.  At this point we’ll load up in the drift boat and launch a mile down the road at Warm Springs.  Once on the water, you’ll learn what a riffle, backeddie and tail out are and how to present flies in each and why fish will hold in these types of waters.  You’ll turn over rocks and discuss the insects that live in the river and which ones the trout prefer.  You’ll cast and present flies and learn to understand the dead drifting presentations, both on the surface and below it, need to consistently catch trout.  You will discuss why and when certain techniques work and why some don’t.  The day will end at the Mecca Flat Campground where your instructor will return you to our shop and your vehicle.
The Full Day Steelhead classes will also start at our Warm Springs location.  All the basics will be covered including the proper gear to get you started.  Casting techniques will include both single and two-handed rods.  Why we choose certain fly lines, leaders, tippets and appropriate rods will all be discussed and explained.  Instructors will discuss the different techniques and presentations Steelhead prefer and why to choose certain flies, big to small.  A BBQ style lunch will be provided and a relaxing break will be enjoyed.  From here we will load up in the boat and the on the water portion will include reading water, discussing why steelhead hold in certain areas and the importance of water temperature, speed, clarity and sun angles.  Instructors will discuss Steelhead behavior and migration times, how the run progresses and how temperature effects how and where we fish, sharing years of knowledge gained be chasing these ocean going rainbows.  Techniques on how to correctly present your fly in certain water types and why particular flies work best in each situation will be shared. There will be many techniques discussed including skating dry flies, sink tip work and even some nymph tactics.  Believe us when we say that these courses are a great way to get your skills dialed and you will gain important knowledge you can take with you on any future fishing adventure.
